Let’s talk about Urdhva Mukha Svanāsana, or Upw Let’s talk about Urdhva Mukha Svanāsana, or Upward Facing Dog ⬆️ 🎭 🐕 Our hands and top of the feet push into the ground lifting our thighs off the floor. Hips sink a little and glutes are relaxed. Heart and throat are open ✨ This posture is a frequent flyer in dynamic classes. It feels absolutely amazing to stretch out the entire front body, open the heart, and bend the back. It also improves flexibility of the spine and full body strength ❤️ A key alignment point to check is where the hands are placed. Whatever pose you’re entering from (typically a down dog, plank, or ashtanga namaskar) check that your hands are far back enough so that you can lift your thighs off the ground ~ If you’ve struggled with lifting the legs your hand placement is most likely why! Make sure the hands are in line with ribs or lower chest area 🤚🏼 Another tweak may be your feet. Some of us find it harder or uncomfortable to come onto the top of the feet, if that’s the case try keeping the toes tucked from your plank or down dog, and just dropping the hips (make sure the glutes are soft here), opening the chest, and lifting the crown of the head. Get comfortable in a sitting or lying position and start taking a few deep breaths to center yourself and become present in your space 2. Start to feel your body and become aware of the space around your body ~ each exhale start to let your weight melt into the earth 3. Once you feel rooted bring your awareness down to the feet, feel the earth beneath them. Start by thinking of one reason you are truly grateful for your feet. Think about what they do for you every day, where they’ve taken you, maybe they allow you to move in an amazing way like dance or sport 4. Continue to do this with each body part moving up until you reach the head, showering your body in love and gratitude for all it does for you every single day and everything it’s allowed you to do throughout your life 5. Once you’ve shown gratitude for your entire body bring the awareness to your heart space. Feel your heart beat and start to visualise a bright green light pulsing with your breath. On the inhales visualise this light growing brighter and brighter. On the exhales visualise this light spreading out from the heart to every cell in the body and all around you in your auric field. 6. Let this green light fill and nourish you with self love, kindness, and compassion for a few moments and end your practice by saying “I am happy, I am healthy, I am well” Your practice is complete. 3 ways to release what’s not serving you👇🏼 3 ways to release what’s not serving you👇🏼 1. BURNING RITUAL 🔥 ~ Write whatever you feel you are ready to release on a piece of paper. Write one word, bullet points, essays… whatever resonates with you. Take that piece of paper and burn it, as you set it on fire do so with intention, watching and feeling it leave your mind body and soul. 2. BODY DRUMMING 🥁 ~ Put on some music that takes you into an internal space. Start tapping your hands over the heart, start to tap harder and faster, begin to lets the hands move out from the heart all over the whole body, tapping or beating wherever you feel called to. Use deep breaths as you do this to help start to release the stagnant energies in the body’s tissues and fibres. Don’t neglect the backbody, the feet, the head! 3. PAPER LANTERNS 🌌 ~ Use a paper lantern and either write on it what you want to release or close your eyes and visualise the lantern being filled with what you need to let go of. Release the lantern into the sky as you repeat the affirmation “I release what no longer serves me.
